Valley Oak League and crosstown rivals Manteca and East Union met for third place in the Modesto City Classic on Saturday with the Buffaloes outscoring the Lancers in every quarter for the 55-43 win at Modesto High.

“We did a good job defending (Jake) Danhoff,” Manteca coach Dave Asuncion said. “And our offensive execution was better than it has been.”

The Buffaloes’ Michael Hatfield led all scorers with 14 points with teammate Austin Haro adding nine points. Buddy Reeder pulled in nine rebounds for Manteca (3-1).

Danhoff led East Union (2-2) with 12 points and Drew Ruiz added 10.

“We didn’t do a good job of executing offensively,” Lancers coach Ryan Tarr said. “We only scored six points in the first quarter and then had to play catch-up.

“It’s tough to play from behind.”
