Sierra regrouped at halftime after a rough-and-tumble start to its nonleague affair with visiting Stagg on Tuesday.

The Timberwolves used a 20-4 run in the third quarter to break away and coast to a 55-28 victory.

“It was a really physical game and it tested the girls mentally,” Sierra coach Martha Spivey said. “They did a great job of keeping their composure.”

Sierra (2-1) was paced by Celine Barber’s 15 points, four steals and three assists. Kristen Maestretti added 12 points. Tiffany Harris contributed six points and seven rebounds.

Jasmine Pharms turned in 10 points for the Delta Queens (1-3).

“We really looked like a team tonight and started to apply all of the things we’ve been working on in practice. We have to keep moving forward and improving every day.”

Sierra opens the Linden Tournament on Thursday against Pitman of Turlock at 8 p.m.
