RIPON — The wait is over.

Ripon High can now focus its efforts on two-time defending Trans Valley League champion Modesto Christian after taking care of Riverbank 65-26 Friday.

The Indians (2-0, 11-8 overall) held their second straight league opponent to under 30 points. Riverbank (0-2, 7-10) was one turnover shy of matching its point total and shot an anemic 24 percent from the field.

“They didn’t know which way was up, (because) our defense was so intense,” Ripon coach Rod Wright said. “It was the most intense I’ve seen my players. It was a tenaciously defended game. I am liking our play right now.”

Ripon posted the blow out despite one of its leading scorers, Efren Sifuentes, finishing with five points. Eleven of 13 Indians contributed to the scoring, as Wright sat his starters just 2 minutes into the third quarter.

Matt Ratto led the way with 18 points, 14 of which were recorded in the first half. Ryan Baker added 13 points, Ryan Alexander had eight and Kody Wengel pitched in six points and seven rebounds.

Ripon heads to Salida next Tuesday to square off with Modesto Christian (2-0, 9-7). Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Escalon 40, Ripon Christian 39
In Ripon, the host Knights (1-1, 10-8) had two shots to avoid the upset at the end. Escalon (1-1, 6-13) hit two free throws with nine seconds remaining to take the final lead.

Escalon’s Brandon Shaw paced all scorers with 12 points, and teammate Doyle Niu contributed 11. David Vander Schaaf led Ripon Christian with 11, while Tyler Goslinga finished with 10.
