Manteca Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the 1800 block of East Yosemite Avenue between the hours of 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. The following are statistics from the checkpoint.

• Vehicles Screened - 611

• Vehicle stops – 13

• Field Sobriety Tests Administered – 7

• DUI Arrests Resulting from DUI Checkpoint – 1

• Criminal (in custody) arrests resulting from DUI checkpoint – 1

• Drug arrests resulting from DUI checkpoint – 1

• Suspended Licenses – 1

• All other Arrests/Citations – 6

Manteca PD will be conducting another DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Friday, Dec. 20, in an ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.
