Build desalinization not water tunnels

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

Spending $24.7 billion for water tunnels to divert water from Northern California to feed Southern California is nothing short of robbery!

There is nothing that irritates us more than the thought of spending billions to ship our water to the L.A. Basin. Southern California has the same ocean to the West as we have and some tall mountains to the East although they are not heavy producers of snow. The point is that building a desalinization plant would cost less than that and should bring plenty of water to the whole area of the desert of L.A.!

Many people don’t realize that they are also robbing water from Boulder Dam on the Colorado river. Will there be no end to their insatiable thirst and wanton waste of water? At everyone else’s expense! Japan learned how to supply the country with water—desalinization! Lets’ not give up our agriculture and fish and wild life water. The current canals that carry away water in Browns’ Ditch, evaporates at least 15% before it even gets to L.A.  Use some of those “High Speed Rails” funds to get L. A. started building their own water source — desalinization plants!!
