Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

When it comes to doing projects around town there should be priorities, such was the case at Tuesday night’s council meeting on Dec. 17. With numerous projects needed to be done such as rejuvenating the picnic areas at Lincoln Park and Northgate Park, they were shot down by Mayor Willie Weatherford and his sidekick Councilman Vince Hernandez. Both sat up on their thrones to tell city staff and those in attendance the importance to overhaul Morenzone Field, converting it into a baseball field at a cost of $500,000. They say it is badly needed for the 13-15 year-old baseball use, what a snow job this was. Soon a barrage of speakers took turns traversing back and forth to the podium each expressing the need for such a project to city staff and our good ol’ council who was all smiles.

Since the Mayor and Hernandez were the perpetrators of this project they had they had no concern or could care less about anything but their own pet personal projects., no matter what it cost. Upon speaking with Kevin Fant about this he says this is a top priority project and must be done ASAP , immediately if not sooner. Hurry up let’s get it done so the Mayor and Hernandez will be happy.

Councilman John Harris did the right thing by voting no. Councilman Steve DeBrum voted yes on this. He had to fly with the birds with feathers gang, was the reason he voted yes. Perhaps when this project is done maybe the city should give serious thought about changing the name of this baseball field from its present name of Morenzone Field to Weatherford & Hernandez Memorial Ball Field. Meanwhile the families that see Lincoln and Northgate picnic area can thank our good ol’ boy council for not having a nice place to have a family picnic.
