Ripon Christian’s senior point guard Teagan Manus recorded 25 points and carried the Knights to their own tournament title on Saturday after knocking off Hughson 45-40.

Manus was named the tournament MVP and Carly Tillema (four points) and Amber Hilvers made the All-Tournament team as well for 5-3 Ripon Christian.

“(Manus) was the only offense that we had,” Ripon Christian head coach Ed Mulder said. “We didn’t shoot that well and we turned the ball over 30 times. It was our defense that won the game and her offense that put us ahead. We played well offensively and got good shots, we were just very cold.”

The Knights shot 13 of 47 from the field and went on a 7-0 run in the second quarter before pushing into the locker rooms with a 21-16 advantage.

Ellen Blankers scored her only two points in the fourth quarter and Hilvers (10 points) hit a 12-foot jumper to stretch the lead to seven late.

Ripon Christian will be at Waterford for Southern League action on Friday, followed by a road game at Mariposa Monday.

Sierra trailed 19-12 after the first quarter and ‘didn’t come out ready to play,’ according to head coach Martha Spivey. “

The Timberwolves’ next ball game will be on the road at Downey Modesto on Friday, followed by their Valley Oak League opener at home against Oakdale on Jan. 8.
