EU falls to 0-3 after stunning loss on road against Oakdale

Oakdale’s Anna Perrone and Madison Hackbarth came up clutch for the Mustangs during Wednesday night’s Valley Oak League matchup against East Union.

Perrone hit the game-tying, 3-point bucket at the end of regulation and Hackbarth sunk the game-winner at the end of the overtime period as the Lancers (0-3 VOL, 8-6 overall) suffered a 53-51 loss.

“It definitely didn’t feel good,” East Union head coach Jim Agostini said. “Tough league loss.”

The Lancers weren’t able to knock down their free throws.

The Mustangs (2-1, 11-5) extended the game in the fourth quarter, and then won it off consecutive East Union double-bonus misses from the line.

East Union freshman forward Loretta Kakala finished with 16 points. Ruby Daube added 13 and Anna Wood 10 during the loss for the Lancers, who visit Lathrop at 7:15 p.m. Friday night.

Sierra 37, Kimball 36

The Timberwolves trailed the entire game and by as many as nine in the second half. However, Sierra (2-1, 10-6) went on a 12-7 run in the fourth quarter and Tiffany Harris knocked down the game-winning shot with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. Kayla Wilson and Celine Barber both finished with 11 points and Harris pitched in seven.

Sophomore

East Union 37,
Oakdale 32

The Lancers (2-1, 11-2) received a solid effort from Jessica Pablo (11 points, five assists, four steals) and Jenna Zuniga (nine points, three steals). Ciara Goodwin added seven and hauled in nine boards.

Sierra 37, Kimball 36

Kendelle Messersmith recorded six points with two steals, six rebounds and one assist, but the T’Wolves were led by Trayana Davis’ 23 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals. Devi Coglio added six points, three rebounds, three assists and eight steals.

Freshman

Kimball 46, Sierra 41

Vanessa Padilla netted 21 points in a losing effort for the T’Wolves, who outscored Kimball 20-8 in the third quarter to create a five-point cushion heading into the fourth. Krista Harris added eight points and Alissa Tillman finished with 10.

Oakdale 40,
East Union 26

The Lancers, who weren’t able to overcome a 21-11 halftime deficit, were led by Alaina Haena (six points) and DeJohna Pryor (five points) in the loss.
