PATTERSON — Patterson’s Cassie Coble buried six of seven free throws and pumped in 12 of the Tigers’ 26 fourth-quarter points to upend Manteca 59-53 Tuesday.

The 6-foot-1 point guard finished with 23 points to lead all scorers.

Manteca (2-2) held a 38-31 lead to start the fourth but cooled off on the offensive end. The Buffaloes tried to extend the game late by fouling, but Patterson (3-1) made its last seven free throws to ice it.

“We had the opportunities, but can’t seem to put those little shots in,” Manteca coach Andrea Hiatt said. “Those shots will fall for us at some point, but that’s been our nightmare so far this season.

“We’re executing, we’re just not finishing. That’s really what it came down to tonight.”

The Tigers opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run. Coble also burned Manteca from the 3-point line, as she nailed two down the stretch.

“She’s hard to defend with her height,” Hiatt said. “She rebounds, she brings the ball down and she can take it to the post or take the three.”

Manteca was led by their top underclassmen. Junior guard Sharon Washington scored 15 points, and sophomore Jaqi Gutierrez hit three 3-pointers to make up the bulk of her 13 points. Freshman Mikayla Hasal added nine.

Manteca will look to bounce back at home Friday against Pitman of Turlock.

MODESTO — The Cougars (1-1) did their best work in the second half, but not before trailing 42-19 at halftime.

Timnesha Wilson paced Weston Ranch with 13 points and five steals. Jazmin Strane added seven points, and freshman Emoni Wilson pulled down nine boards.

“We were a different team in the second half, we just gave them too much in the first half to catch up,” Weston Ranch coach Chris Bauer said.

Weston Ranch opens the Stagg Tournament at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Chavez.
