Hilberto “Gilbert” Sanchez, 84, entered into rest on December 7, in Manteca. He was born on April 25, 1925 in Sonora, Texas. Before moving to Manteca 11 years ago he and his wife resided in San Jose California. Gilbert joins his son in heaven, Hilberto “Gil” Sanchez.

Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Sanchez of Manteca. His children are Sylvia Ranjel of Manteca, Manuel Sanchez of Mexico, Ida Sanchez of Santa Clara, Hector Sanchez of Stockton, and David Sanchez of San Jose. His siblings are Lionel Sanchez of Los Angeles, and Abelino Sanchez of Texas. He was blessed by 8 grandchildren; Dee Dee Andrade, Stefanie Ranjel, Dennis Bua, David “jr.” Sanchez, Danielle Sanchez, Juan Sanchez, Zinnia Sanchez, and Manny Sanchez, as well as three great-granddaughters, Merissa, Joanna, and Eleanor.

Gilbert was a Pearl Harbor survivor and proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He was a truck driver for 35 years and retired from ABC Distributing after 12 years of service. Gilbert was an avid fisherman; he found peace just being outdoors; camping, hunting or just relaxing with the family barbequing. He was a self-proclaimed “Shuffle Board Champion” and a “Pool Champion.” Gilbert had the gift of socializing; he never met a stranger and had many friends whom he loved dearly. Barbequing with family was his excuse just to make his special “secret recipe sauce” that everyone loved and bragged over. Gilbert was a loyal 49er fan; he enjoyed watching his “9er” on Sunday and Mondays, especially when they came out with a big win. Gilbert will be remembered as a family man who was always fun loving. He will be missed.

Mr. Sanchez’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home of Manteca. Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. followed by a Vigil/Rosary service at 4 p.m. held at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday Dec. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 525 E. North St. Manteca. Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Alzheimer’s Foundation 105 S. Washington St. Lodi CA 95204 or The American Lung Association 1231 W. Robinhood #A-1 Stockton, CA 95207.
