“A Calvary Christmas” – an original Christmas musical – is being staged tonight at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Community Church, 815 W. Lathrop Road.

It is just one of a number of faith-based Christmas events taking place today in addition to the Lathrop Christmas parade.

The Calvary musical was written, produced and scored by members of the church. It’s described as being a story about the making of a musical and the search for what Christmas is about.

TODAY
• LIVING NATIVITY SCENES: The Sequoia Heights Baptist Church’s annual drive-thru living nativity is tonight and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church at 1050 S. Union Road on the corner of Union and Wawona.

The drive-thru nativity depicts the life of Jesus beginning at His birth and ending at His resurrection. All the characters are people pantomiming what the drive through listeners are hearing on a tape. There is no charge.

In Ripon, the live nativity scene at Calvary Reformed Church at the corner of Second and Vera avenues continues tonight from 6 to 9 p.m.

• SONDANCE BALLET: SONdance presents “A Christmas to Remember” through the music of the season beautifully portrayed through the art of dance at The Place of Refuge, 486 Button Ave., today at at 1 p.m.

This year SONdance will be partnering with Manna Ministries, to collect food for needy families throughout the Manteca area. Each guest is asked to bring dry or can food items to the performance which will then be picked up and distributed by Manna Ministries.

Tickets are $8 at the door.

The Holiday Affair has been a sell-out virtually every year. All proceeds go to the Soroptimists’ Community Service Fund.
