Tilton was a teacher and coach at Manteca High at one time before he went on to work in administrative capacities at San Joaquin County Office of Education and other educational institutions. He is one of two candidates from the Manteca Unified School District who is seeking to fill the county top post currently being held by Superintendent of County Schools Mick Founts of Manteca. The other local-grown candidate for the same post is Gary Dei Rossi who, prior to retirement last year, was SJCOE’s deputy superintendent.

Founts has announced his intent to retire at the end of the current school year.
