PATTERSON – With another 20 point performance under his belt, freshman phenom Jordan Kron steered the East Union Lancers roll past the Patterson Tigers, winning 69-65 in non-league action Tuesday night at Dalben Center.

And the game was even closer than the tight score indicates.

The Lancers trailed by as many as seven points in the first quarter before rallying back to take a 34-31 halftime lead.

It was Patterson’s star guard Kent Foster – who finished the game with 24 points – that gave the Lancers fits when it came to defending him.

“We really didn’t contain him like we wanted to tonight,” East Union head coach Brett Lewis said. “This showed us that we definitely need to get a lot of stuff cleaned up.”

While Kron served as East Union’s scoring force, it was Ricky Inderbitzen that dominated the paint for the Lancers – pulling in 14 rebounds to win the battle of the boards.

Both Tyler Bylow and BJ Gordon each contributed 10 points in the victory.

“This showed us that we need to clean up a lot of stuff,” Lewis said. “But all-in-all I can’t complain – it’s a win on the road. We came out a little bit sluggish and they jumped on us, but we weathered the storm and got the win.”

East Union will travel to Stockton tonight to take on Bear Creek.

Chavez 74, Lathrop 23
STOCKTON – It was pressure that prevented the Lathrop Spartans from picking up their first win of the season Tuesday night.

The athletic presence and home court advantage of the Caesar Chavez Titans proved to be too much for the first-year varsity Lathrop squad who fell 74-23 in their seventh straight loss of the season.

“They came out and pressed us for the majority of the game,” Lathrop head coach JJ Ramirez said. “They were more athletic and we had a hard time handling the pressure they put on us – our guys were getting frustrated and didn’t know to react to that.”

Avery Lewis managed to tally seven points to lead the Spartans, while Javis Johnson added six.

Lathrop will play tonight in the Tracy Holiday Tournament where they’ll take on Tracy High School at 7:30 p.m.
