Maria Madalina Brasil Borba, 77, of Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, of natural causes. She was born Maria Madalina Brasil on May 20, 1932 in Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores and has called Topo her home her entire life.  

In 1972 Madalina came to California with her husband and two sons Joe and Luis. They made their home in Manteca after eight months in Turlock. Her husband, son Joe  and she worked for Mr. Frank Teixeira milking cows on his dairy. In 1984 Madalina, along with her husband and son Luis, moved back to  the Azores to retire while her son Joe stayed behind in California to raise his family. While in California she attended Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Turlock, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Manteca, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ripon. Her pastimes included embroidering; spending time with her family, especially  her grandchildren, and decorating the Catholic Church in Topo for Sunday mass, Portuguese celebrations, and any other occasion.
 
Her survivors include: her  husband of 41 years Manuel “Neto” Borba of Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores;  her sons: Joe Borba and his wife Maria Beatriz of Manteca and Luis Borba and his wife Idalia of Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores; her grandchildren: Lucy Borba of Manteca; Richard Borba and his wife Grace of Manteca; Carina  Borba and Celcio Borba both of Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores; her great-grandchildren:  Logan and Alexis Borba both  of Manteca; and her siblings: Trindad, Elena, Fernando, Joao, Antonio, and Pedro Brasil who live in California and Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores.  

She was preceded in death by two infant siblings along with her brother Joe Brasil and Manuel Brasil.  

A Mass of Christian Burial  was held on December 2, in Topo, Sao Jorge, Azores and her interment  was held following the mass. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church  in Manteca.
