EDITOR’S NOTE: Susan McCreath has been selected to participate in the Year of You, a fitness challenge hosted by The Manteca Bulletin and CORE Athletic Performance. McCreath will keep a weekly journal, highlighting the strides and struggles of her fitness journey. These are her thoughts and feelings shared with you.

Day 36

I love three-day weekends. Time to relax, rejuvenate, and sit around all day and wait for bootcamp. Tonight it was all about the squat – squat high, squat low, squat medium. Just squat! And when you get tired of squatting, you can switch it up and do some lunges. I’m feeling stronger everyday and that is keeping me motivated.

Day 37

It’s finally starting to seem like a routine to go and workout. It’s finally fitting into my schedule, or perhaps I should say I have fit it into my schedule. I don’t dread going and in all reality it is only an hour of my day. It’s also nice to see the positive changes in my body and hearing people at work tell me that my clothes are too big. Trust me, it is so much nicer wearing clothes that are baggy as opposed to stuffing yourself into your clothes like a sausage.

Day 38

Wow. Class was packed tonight. I was thinking that it was probably going to be too crowded to do sprints, but Tommy (Sandoval) didn’t think so. That’s obviously why he is the trainer and I am not. I am able to find reasons to get out of doing certain exercises. Things might be getting easier, but sprints will never be easy or enjoyable to me. If I ever say they are then I will know something is terribly wrong with my mind and body.

Day 39

I haven’t been able to workout the past couple of Thursday nights because of work obligations, but I’m getting better about trying to do some exercises when I get home: push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, planks. One thing I will never do on my own though is a burpee!

Day 40

I wore my size 14 jeans to work today and boy did that feel good. I especially like how the day goes on and your jeans get looser and looser; makes you feel like you’re burning calories while you’re just sitting there. If only it were that easy.

Day 41

It is Almond Blossom Day in Ripon and as I am driving to the post office in the morning I see a sign for tri tip sandwiches at Ripon Christian. I’m not a huge tri tip person, but this sign really caught my eye. As the morning went by all I could think about was this darn sandwich and how bad I wanted it. I finally succumbed and went and got the sandwich – and I didn’t even wait to get home to eat it. I started eating it on the way home and then finished it up while I sat in my driveway. About 30 minutes later the headache set in and I was pretty useless for the next couple of hours. I’m pretty sure it was the huge bun and the over abundance of fatty meat. Or, it could’ve been the bag of potato chips that I had as well.

Day 42

After the food coma yesterday, I decided it was back to oatmeal and salad for me. It is amazing how much better my body and mind feel when I eat properly.
