Three men staged a takeover style robbery at Ripon’s Bank of the West at 11:30 Friday morning leaving with an unknown amount of cash after emptying three teller drawers.

The robbery occurred at 411 West Main Street where three suspects entered the bank ordering employees and customers to the floor as they jumped the counters. Ripon Police First Sergeant Steve Merchant said the suspects were wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts during the robbery.

The bank was robbed on Nov. 21 as well.

The trio fled the area in a dark colored SUV and were out of downtown when the first officers arrived on the scene, less than a minute after the call was dispatched. They were last seen on Pine Street headed toward the freeway.

Ripon detectives spent most of the day interviewing witnesses and studying surveillance tapes of the incident.

Sgt. Merchant lauded Ripon citizens who have been providing what he described as valuable information to the detectives about the bank robbery. Merchant is urging anyone with information about the crime to call the Ripon Information Tip Line at 209.599.7847 or contact Detective Terri Jensen at 209.599.0261.
