Jeff Williams considered his Sierra boys golf team to be “very fortunate” Tuesday when it began the Valley Oak League season at Oakdale Golf & Country Club, where the Timberwolves nipped host Oakdale, 253-259.

“They were without three starters,” Williams said.

Still, Sierra needed some solid scores to earn the win. Blake Settlemoir led the way with a 3-over-par 39. Matt Rose checked in with a 42, Chris Schmitz carded a 49, Chuck Good scored a 55 and Evan Brazell rounded out scoring with a 67.

“Overall Blake did a very good job,” Williams said. “I’m very pleased with his performance.”

Sierra hosts Weston Ranch today at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Co-medalist Justin Morrish finished with a 44, but the Buffaloes took a tough loss at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Brandon Ramirez added a 46 for Manteca. Kimball’s Reese Maxfield is the other medalist.
