Felony crime falls 17.43% in Manteca

If January is a precursor for how 2014 with turn out then major crime will drop significantly in Manteca.

The Manteca Police Department’s crime statistics report for January shows a drop-off of 17.43 percent compared to the first month of 2013 in the 12 felony categories tracked by the FBI to determine a community’s relative safety. Burglaries are down 27.55 percent between January of this year and January of 2013.

Misdemeanors, though, are up 26.21 percent including a 14.55 percent jump in misdemeanor thefts.

Miscellaneous offenses are also up 29.51 percent driven primarily by a 148.39 percent jump in fraud and forgery with 77 cases in January 2014 compared to 31 in January 2013. Among miscellaneous offenses, those involving narcotics have dropped 8.7 percent and those with alcohol have fallen 16.28 percent.

Warrants served are up 30.86 percent going from 81 to 106.

Traffic accidents are up 46.67 percent going from 45 to 66 while the number of injury accidents dropped 14.29 percent from 14 to 12. Tickets for moving violations are up 69 percent going from 45 to 72.

Of the 12 felony categories eight have dropped, one is unchanged, and three have increased.

Dropping from January 2013 to January 2014 were:

• homicide 100 percent going from 1 to 0.

• residential burglaries 56.25 percent going from 32 to 14.

• other burglaries 20 percent going from 5 to 4.

• auto burglaries 30.91 percent going from 55 to 38.

• grand theft 15 percent going from 20 to 17.

• vehicle theft 11.9 percent going from 42 to 37.

• arson 57.14 percent going from 7 to 3.

• all other felonies 13.51 percent going from 37 to 32.

Increasing from January 2013 to January 2014 were:

• robbery 66.67 percent going from 6 to10.

• aggravated assault 14.29 percent going from 7 to 8.

• commercial burglary 150 percent going from 6 to 15.

There was one rape or unlawful intercourse in January of 2013 as well as January of 2014.
