Easter weekend fun: Egg hunts, beer & more

To make sure this weekend is not all about glazed ham, rack of lamb and chocolate desserts, sign up for the 10th annual Easter Run and Fun on Saturday, April 19, at the beautiful Lodi Lake at 8 a.m. There will also be a children's Fun Run at 9:20 a.m. All 5K and 10K runners and walkers receive a shirt, pancake breakfast, and a raffle entry. BugFest in Stockton, rodeo fun in Oakdale

The Men's Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ripon Post 1051 will host its Seafood Platter at 12455 West Ripon Road on Saturday, April 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be 50/50 raffle and a DJ entertaining the guests. Donation of $15 per person is recommended.

From elegant edibles to spring fashion & tea

The Manteca Sororptimist Spring Tea & Fashion Show is Saturday, March 29, at noon at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane. Tea is served at 1 p.m. with a three-course luncheon. Shrimp feed & fish fry to Civil War re-enactment

Manteca's Every 15 Minutes Program's 6th annual Shrimp Feed will take place on Saturday, March 22, at the MRPS Hall, 133 N. Grant Street in Manteca. Social hour starts at 5 p.m., while an all-you-can-eat-shrimp dinner with pasta, salad and dessert will be served at 6:30 followed by a raffle at 8 and DJ playing until midnight. Don't worry about driving home though, a safe and sober ride home will be available. Tickets are $35 each. Crabs, silent movies & rose petals await

Crab feeds are far from over, and on Saturday, Feb. 15, you can eat as much crab as you want at the fifth annual crab feed fund-raiser for St. Anthony's School in the school gymnasium, 323 N. Fremont Ave. Kicking off the evening will be a wine and cheese tasting at 5 p.m. (back by popular demand), followed by dinner at 6:30 plus a no-host bar, dessert auction, live and silent auctions, music, and dancing. The Italian Catholic Federation will be having its annual "All You Can Eat" shrimp dinner Saturday, May 2, at the St. Anthony Church gym. No-host cocktails begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7. I love books. I taught myself to read at the age of 5 and haven't put a book down ever since. As a child I won several "Queen of Children's Readers" contests held at the local library, where they kept track of every book I borrowed, and several years in a row I came close to the number 300.
