Ripon came through in extra innings against Louisville of Woodland Hills for a 7-5 win Saturday in the semifinals of the NorCal Classic before losing 13-0 to Selma for the championship of the Diamond Bracket at the Tracy Softball Complex.
I started covering high school sports in this area around the turn of the century. In those days, Valley Oak League and Sac-Joaquin Section championships were reserved mostly for other schools – unless you were on the Sierra track team. I know there were other local champions back then too, but since I coached there and my kids went there, the Blue School stands out in my mind.
It was a tale of two halves Tuesday with Manteca winning the first half and Sierra the second but neither won the game as the two dueled to a 1-1 tie in Valley Oak League soccer action at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.
A battle of unbeatens and defending Sac-Joaquin Section champions played out Tuesday with Michelle Castro hitting a solo home run and an RBI double to lead East Union past Sierra 2-0 in Valley Oak League action at the Northgate Softball Complex.

STOCKTON – Despite a sloppy field, Manteca managed three goals within six minutes midway through the first half and added three more in the second as Leah Manuleleua notched a hat trick to lead the Buffaloes to a 6-0 win over host Weston Ranch to open Valley Oak League play on Monday.
