A REAL SEEDY DEAL

In the spring, the field on the north side of the Highway 120 Bypass at McKinley Avenue was a palette of purple colors amid forest green foliage. The color purple came from the giant thistle-like blossoms of thousands of artichokes that carpeted the fields which were once almond orchards belonging to retired Lathrop-Manteca farmer Frank Mendes.
