Federal agency: Delta smelt in greater danger

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced that, based on accumulated scientific data, the delta smelt warrants uplisting from "threatened" to "endangered" under the Endangered Species Act but that uplisting at this time is precluded by the need to address higher priority species first.

Prelude to Good Friday

It was a scene repeated all over the world, from the Vatican to the far flung Catholic churches all over the world: priests at St. Anthony of Padua in Manteca washing the feet of parishioners during the Holy Thursday evening service. The solemn occasion also was in remembrance of the Last Supper shared by Jesus with his disciples before his death on Calvary which is being commemorated today, Good Friday.

Light brown apple moth found in Stockton, Manteca neighborhoods

STOCKTON – The San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner's Office detected a second light brown apple moth in the Stockton area on February 19 in a residential area on Alice Street. This moth was found within 1 ½ miles of an initial moth find detected on Feb. 9 on E. Third Street.
