Homeless teen studying to become nurse

Sierra High grad Andrea Ramirez – homeless for several years – is going to San Jose State University to become a nurse. Her desire is to be a pediatric nurse so she can hopefully touch the lives of children as she has already done in Manteca and Lathrop.

Officials: Horse owners, take precautions against West Nile

STOCKTON - The San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner's Office announced today, a West Nile Virus horse fatality is the first in San Joaquin County for 2009. Although the Agricultural Commissioner recommends all horses receive the WNV vaccine, the horse had not previously been vaccinated.

In a story about a local skateboard company getting off the ground that ran in the Thursday, July 30 edition of the Manteca Bulletin, the longtime friend of company owner Frank Alvarado that was taken by cancer was Katy McKenzie – not Katie McKenzie as was mentioned in the story. It was ovarian cancer that claimed her life, not breast cancer as reported.
