An increase in small donors giving everything from $10 to $100 helped the Boys & Girls Club of Manteca/Lathrop raise $73,625 during their annual two-day telethon that ended Tuesday night.

Man who raped young boys released into Manteca’s El Rancho Mobile Home park

Dewayne Michael Smith, 50, a convicted child sex offender, was released into the Manteca community Tuesday after spending some 22 years at Atascadero State Mental Hospital located on the coast between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

School board compensation being revisited

Michael Seelye missed a Manteca Unified Board of Trustees meeting to attend the birthday celebration for his first grandchild who was turning one. His absence was excused by the board, which meant he was not going to lose his compensation. The reason for his absence was considered a "hardship."

Widespread loss of Ripon Verizon service

Verizon land line telephone customers in Ripon experienced a loss of dial tones in their handsets as well as interruption in their Internet and Wi-Fi services over the weekend. While intermittent loss of service was first reported early on Saturday it became widespread about noon with some customers thinking the interruption was either in their computers or in their routers.
