Kenneth E. Hayes (1918-1965)

Born & raised in Manteca, son of the late William E. & Margaret Hayes, husband of the late Odessa Hayes, father of two. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1935 & served until 1965. He was serving as a Lt. Commander at the time of his death of natural causes. He served both in World War II and Korea.

Darrell A. Hayes (1917-2001)

Born & raised in Manteca, son of the late William E. & Margaret Hayes, husband of the late Gayle Hayes, father of three. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He was assigned to the tank destroyer battalion serving under General Patton in the European Theatre-Normandy when he was wounded in action in 1944. He spent one year hospitalized in England before returning stateside for more treatment. He received a Purple Heart plus European African Middle Eastern Theatre ribbon with two Bronze Stars. His rank upon honorable discharge in 1945 was Sergeant.

JR Oretga

JR Ortega joined the United States Navy in August 2007 after graduating from East Union High School. He is pursuing a medical career. He has completed Field Medical Training Battalion, Basic Recon course, Jump School, and Special Operations Combat Medical Course. His family and friends are very proud of him. JR's first deployment is to Afghanistan. He left in May 2011. We ask Mantecans to pray for JR and all the men and women serving our country.

Steve Hauger

Steven Hauger's family last saw him on March 11, 2011 when they saw him off at the Sacramento Airport. He is deployed with Delta Co.1-171st Aviation Regiment of the Army National Guard as a helicopter mechanic. He is currently serving in "Operation New Dawn" in Iraq. Steven began his schooling at Sequoia School and graduated from Lindbergh School in 2004. He joined the Army in 2007.

Sidney Lee Huff

Sidney Lee Huff of Manteca, Dec. 11, 1932 to July 7, 2000. Served in the United States Army 23 years as Sergeant First Class and served in the Korean War, was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Sidney was married to Janet Huff. They had 5 sons: Michael Huff, Terry Huff, Tracy Huff, Rod Huff, Todd Huff, and had 8 grandchildren.

I am attaching a photo of my son-in-law and myself. Jeremy Bucholtz is giving me (Mike Kimball) a presentation firearm that commemorates his second combat tour in Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Jeremy is about to serve his third combat tour in Afghanistan.

Travis Helm

His first interest in the military began when he was a student in high school. Travis graduated from Sierra High School in 2002 with a four year Army ROTC Scholarship to US Davis. Travis was one of the top three cadets in his class three years in a row. His fourth year at UC Davis he studied aboard in Africa.

David Nolen

I just wanted to say how thankful I am for my family. My husband, David L Nolen, is a Vietnam Army veteran. Three of our children are also veterans. Our oldest daughter Constance Cordwell, Air Force, served in Iraq; her husband, Patrick Kelley, is now serving the Army in Afghanistan. Our oldest, David W. Nolen, served in Afghanistan in the Navy, and our youngest son, John T. Nolen, Marine, served in Afghanistan. I am very proud of our family and all the families that have served our country. God Bless them all.

Sgt. Justin Silva

Sgt. Justin Silva was stationed for 8 years in Fort Hood, Texas. He enlisted a year after graduating from Sierra High School. Sgt. Silva re-enlisted after he completed his first enlisted term, which led him to complete 3 tours, calculating over 1278 days (over 3.5 years) in Iraq.
