JR Ortega joined the United States Navy in August 2007 after graduating from East Union High School. He is pursuing a medical career. He has completed Field Medical Training Battalion, Basic Recon course, Jump School, and Special Operations Combat Medical Course. His family and friends are very proud of him. JR's first deployment is to Afghanistan. He left in May 2011. We ask Mantecans to pray for JR and all the men and women serving our country.

Steven Hauger's family last saw him on March 11, 2011 when they saw him off at the Sacramento Airport. He is deployed with Delta Co.1-171st Aviation Regiment of the Army National Guard as a helicopter mechanic. He is currently serving in "Operation New Dawn" in Iraq. Steven began his schooling at Sequoia School and graduated from Lindbergh School in 2004. He joined the Army in 2007.
Sidney Lee Huff of Manteca, Dec. 11, 1932 to July 7, 2000. Served in the United States Army 23 years as Sergeant First Class and served in the Korean War, was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Sidney was married to Janet Huff. They had 5 sons: Michael Huff, Terry Huff, Tracy Huff, Rod Huff, Todd Huff, and had 8 grandchildren.
