STOCKTON – Students may come and go.
STOCKTON - Alexander Lacey is the big cat among the big cats.
MURPHYS - The Ironstone Concours d'Elegance takes place each year on the last Saturday of September. It's held at the Ironstone Vineyards, just outside the historic Gold Rush town of Murphys, California.
SONORA - Sierra Repertory Theatre will open its 2013 season with the biographical musical BUDDY: The Buddy Holly Story. With nine shows in all, the recently announced 2013 season will also include a summer performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, a fall performance of the comedic play Harvey, and a special Christmas run of It's a Wonderful Life: The Radio Play, which will close the season. Season tickets are now on sale, and general admission tickets go on sale to the public October 1.
NAPA (AP) - The tiki tasting hut in the barrel room of the Judd's Hill winery is a tipoff: This isn't your old-school faux chateau.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey searched far and wide, from north to south and east to west, to bring audiences spellbinding acts, including:
STOCKTON - The KungFu Girls String Band is playing the Bob Hope Theatre, 248 W. Fremont St, on Saturday, Sept. 22.
For many college students, stress has become the norm in their everyday lives. Whether they're studying a couple of hours before final exams, or staying on top of a pile of homework, hanging out with friends in between classes has become a necessity. Many Modesto Junior College students choose from a slew of entertainment options to unwind and enjoy quality time with friends.
STOCKTON – Take away all of Stockton's ills – the foreclosures, a homicide rate that surpasses that of Chicago and a city filing for bankruptcy – and you end up with a bustling and vibrant town with a lot to offer.
PINNACLES NATIONAL MONUMENT - A puzzle to California's vast and awe-inspiring geology smorgasbord is just a few hours away.
MODESTO - In 1912, the city of Modesto held a contest to pick the slogan that would adorn an arch spanning the entrance to the Valley town. "Nobody's Got Modesto's Goat" was the winner. I'm sure residents of today's seat of Stanislaus County are extremely grateful that prior city leaders decided to go with the second place winner - "Water, Wealth, Contentment, Health."
Stanislaus County is the third richest agricultural land in the nation, with farmers growing over 250 different kinds of crops from almonds to zucchini and melons. This fertile Valley was settled long ago by farmers, but has since grown not only in agriculture but also in culture and community.
STOCKTON - The Port City gets a bad rap, no doubt.
Canada geese in such great numbers they practically blacken the sky when they fly by, or get ready to make a stop-over at the open fields.
LODI - Sunlight peeks through the lush landscape at Wine and Roses Resort and Spa as hummingbirds dart between Deodar pine trees and macaws squawk in the distance.
RIPON – Commander Ernie Tyhurst of the Clinton McCausland Post 190 of the American Legion has a history of service to his community and to his country during his colorful lifetime. He joined the Legion four years ago and is in his second year in its leadership. He is now a life member.
RIPON – Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Post 1051 in Ripon, John Franscella, has served three tours aboard the U.S.S. Hancock assigned to the F-8 Fighter Squadron in the Gulf of Tonkin between 1968 and 1970.
While Memorial Day allows locals to take a moment to thank veterans for their service and sacrifice, several veteran organizations continue to contribute year-round to the community. From supporting sober graduate nights to hosting flag retirement ceremonies, veteran societies such as the American Legion support and further the goals of the community through their financial contributions.
LATHROP – Charles McGonegal is looking to boost membership at the Sharpe General Depot American Legion Post 632.
MANTECA – The briefcase sits on a ledge near the front window of the Village Sandwich Shoppe, open and overflowing with folders and paperwork.
The impact the American Legion has had on the lives of veterans – even those who don't know that the organization exists – is unquestioned.
