MODESTO - The Gallo Center for the Arts and Modesto Area Partners in Science (MAPS) is partnering to present "Manya: A Living History of Marie Curie" to serve as a fundraiser for Modesto Junior College's Great Valley Museum Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
MARIPOSA – Visitors to Yosemite this summer have even more to see and do with the introduction of The Mariposa Experience, a free trolley service around the town of Mariposa that provides easy access to the area's shopping, dining and historic attractions along with free activities and prizes.
SHAVER LAKE -California is well known for its beaches and theme parks, but equally impressive are the many mountain getaways that span from the Oregon border all the way down to Big Bear Lake, just a couple of hours drive from Los Angeles. If a "cabin-in-the-woods" is in your vacation plans this summer, there are vacation rentals within an easy drive from most California cities.
SACRAMENTO - "It's fun. It's something different," says Milo Franks of Milo Enterprises', who will provide dozens and dozens of corn dogs for the 2012 California State Fair corn dog-eating contest. And he's looking for hungry fairgoers willing to take on the challenge.
We're coming up on the most patriotic day of the year and it's not too late to make plans for a very special Fourth of July. Certain towns and places in California have better patriotic vibes than others and, if you're interested in a Mayberry USA Fourth of July – or some time paying homage to one of our nation's great military generals – we have some suggestions for you. First a couple of patriotic towns:
JAMESTOWN - The 4th of July extended holiday is a perfect time to visit and support Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP)! Special rides behind Sierra No. 3 -- widely known as the "Movie Star Locomotive" -- and aboard the prized Caboose No. 7 are available on the weekend leading up to the holiday (June 30 & July 1) and on Wednesday, July 4, as well. Plus, entertaining and festive live old-time music performed by the local band "Sequoia" will be provided on Wednesday, July 4.
