NIT is easy to mock, but can lead to bigger things

ATLANTA (AP) - It's easy enough to brush off the National Invitation Tournament as nothing more than a lame coronation: crowning a champion of the also-rans.

Making sense of mixed connective tissue disease

DEAR DR. ROACH: One rheumatologist diagnosed me with unspecified mixed connective tissue disease and Raynaud's syndrome. I was put on Plaquenil, which caused some hair loss and thinning. I got a second opinion from another rheumatologist, who said that based on my bloodwork, I do not have Raynaud's or mixed connective tissue disease. Is it possible that mixed connective tissue disease goes into remission? Should I get a third opinion? -- C.T.

The powerless president

Donald Trump is learning a lesson he should have known during the campaign. Being president is not like being the host of "Celebrity Apprentice" or a billionaire boss. Not everyone works for you. They don't all run around saying that you're a genius, doing whatever you tell them, literally treating you like a king. Being president is nothing like being a king.

Essential thrombocythemia comes with bleeding risk

DEAR DR. ROACH: Recently, I was diagnosed with essential thrombocythemia. The recommended treatment is the drug hydroxyurea because I turned 60 this past year and have a mutation in the JAK 2 gene. If I had not turned 60, the recommended treatment would be aspirin alone. Currently, I am taking the recommended 81-mg aspirin dose daily. I have a very healthy lifestyle: I'm an avid runner, with workouts twice a week at the gym, and I have no history of blood clots, etc. I have no symptoms at this time. I've been getting monthly blood draws to monitor ...

ACA: GOP has to practice bipartisanship within itself

The good should never be the evil of the perfect. House Speaker Paul Ryan's health care bill is a very good first step. Massive repeal of Obamacare tax hikes will be great for the economy. Getting rid of the Affordable Care Act mandates will be great for health care. Private-sector competition and choice are always better than government-run anything. The Republican Party has to practice bipartisanship within itself.

Same remarks: Obama got kudos, Ben Carson called ‘Uncle Tom’

Ben Carson, in a speech before employees of Housing and Urban Development, the department he now runs, likened slaves to "immigrants": "That's what America is about, a land of dreams and opportunity. There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder, for less. But they, too, had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land."
