Top spook looks back

Michael Morell, former acting head of the CIA, became a political animal in August 2016 when he endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. This month, he came to grips with the consequences of that decision - that it might have played into President Donald Trump's distrust of the intelligence community.

Puppies for Christmas not wise idea

DEAR DIDI: Our kids have been begging for a dog for a couple of years now. My husband wants to surprise them with a puppy for Christmas but I am worried that it might send the wrong message to the kids. He insists that we are strict enough to enforce the chores that will be involved. We have five kids: a girl age 2, a boy age 4, a boy age 6, a boy age 7, and a girl age 9. Do you have any recommendations for us? -Professional Mom

We hate phone menus & don’t trust virtual assistants like Siri

"Just thinking about it makes me break out into hives" reported one man in his 60's. A woman in her 30's said she does everything she can to avoid it, including pretending she doesn't speak English. A woman in her 20's said she'll do an intensive online search, including blogs, websites and forums, to find others struggling with the same problem so she feels "less alone."

All about Christmas

Yes, it's the Advent Season where all things Christmas are on full display. Decorations have been set up in stores for quite a few weeks. Plus, the advertising has focused on what you can get for that special someone. Not to mention office parties and large gatherings to celebrate Christmas and so on.

I’d vote for it. You should, too

Warts and all, if I were a voting member of Congress, I would certainly cast a yea for the tax-cut plans passed by the Senate and House that are headed for conference (to work out minor differences) in the weeks ahead.

I Got Fired for Calling Out Liberal Hypocrisy on Clinton Accusers

It was bizarre watching KABC TalkRadio in Los Angeles - my hypocritical ex-employer - hold a televised press conference. It turns out that one of the station's news anchors, Leeann Tweeden, claims Sen. Al Franken groped her. In 2006, Tweeden said, before Franken became a senator, he and she participated in a USO tour to entertain the troops in the Middle East.

Bicuspid aortic valve has only two leaflets

DEAR DR. ROACH: I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve at age 54 (I'm now 62). I see a general cardiologist annually for an echocardiogram and an EKG, and have had one transesophageal echocardiogram. However, he has never ordered a CT or MRI to thoroughly check my aorta. I've read that BAV patients may have a connective tissue disorder, resulting in aortic problems (aneurysm, dissection).

Gun control shouldn’t be this hard to put in place

Before the gun lobby or its sycophants in Congress bring out their usual talking points for why we can't ever have common sense gun reform, I'd like to shoot one of them down. No pun intended.

This tax plan is going to cost a lot more than advertised
