Overthrow Establishment to fix American economy

Famed investor Wilbur Ross recently told CNBC that "Trump represents a more radical new approach to government that the nation's economy desperately needs." He's right. Trump seeks an overthrow of the establishment. He's a disrupter - just what we need to fix the economy.

Annual physical often a hands-on experience

DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 75-year-old female in fairly good health. I take statins to keep my cholesterol under control, and am being followed by an endocrinologist for a parathyroid problem, which also is under control. For the past two years, when I visit my physician for an annual wellness check, I have some blood work done before our visit and fill out a health risk assessment. Other than having my blood pressure taken, the doctor talks to me but does no other physical exam. My heart is not listened to, and no part of my body is touched ...

Leaving dogs outside overnight

DEAR DIDI: I am hoping you can help solve a disagreement that my husband and I have been having. We love your column and your answer will be our 'tiebreaker' of sorts. My husband thinks our dog should spend nights outside in the yard to protect our home. I feel sorry for him and want him in the house but my husband says I baby him too much. What do you think? Embracing socialism despite track record

One of life's enduring mysteries is why the left - against overwhelming evidence to the contrary - insists on more taxation, more government spending and more government control over the private sector. Europe's socialism has, over the last several decades, generated few private sector jobs and lags in growth when compared to the United States with its comparatively lighter hand of government.

Fascists against freedom, unite Fascists against freedom, unite

Everyone expects neo-Nazis to be thuggish and simpleminded. They're losers who need a movement that tells them they are winners, so they troll for grievances and battles from which they can emerge as both morally superior and victims.

Court case shows need for change in state law

There was a recent case before the Stockton court involving a local grower who employed a man for over 20 years whom we will call John. John was a good worker. John did, however, drink too much and too often. As a result John had ongoing domestic problems with his wife, including an incident in which he chased her through an orchard in the middle of the night. Another time the grower's office manager had to take in John's wife and children because they were afraid to go home. Numerous other incidents of spousal abuse followed.

Drafting our daughters

Ever since Donald Trump effectively won the Republican presidential nomination by decisively defeating Ted Cruz in the Indiana primary, Congressional Republicans led by House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have engaged in unseemly public hand-wringing about whether they will or will not accept the people's choice. Unwilling to support the positions that Trump campaigned on - reducing immigration, adopting a pro-American trade policy, and returning education to the local level - Speaker Ryan dusted off his own policy agenda and promised to roll out a series of position papers to compete with those of the presumptive nominee.

Exercise can give insufficient vein valves a leg up

DEAR DR. ROACH: I'm a 69-year-old woman in excellent health. I take valsartan and doxazosin for high blood pressure. I am concerned because I have developed swelling in my left foot and ankle, with none at all in the right foot. Until now, I have never had any foot or ankle swelling, even in the hottest weather or during long periods of standing.
