Hillary Clinton got what?

"Schlonged." That is what Donald Trump said Monday night, referring to President Obama's victory over Hillary Clinton, the former senator and secretary of state, in the long battle for the 2008 presidential nomination. Appearing at a rally in Michigan, Donald Trump rallied his crowd by saying this: "She was favored to win, and she got schlonged."

Islam and the West:

"I worry greatly that the rhetoric coming from the Republicans, particularly Donald Trump, is sending a message to Muslims here ... and ... around the world, that there is a 'clash of civilizations.'"

Trump channels McCarran

Donald Trump's presidential campaign has done it again. Speaking aboard the USS Yorktown on the 74th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Trump called on our government to stop letting Muslims enter the United States "until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on."

Fibrates not effective alternative to statins

DEAR DR. ROACH: On a number of occasions, you have written about statins and mentioned their side effects, notably muscle damage. My physician put me on a statin about seven years ago, and after only 35 days I had a frighteningly bad episode. I gave up on the statins, but they left me with permanent damage to the muscle across my waist and a muscle on my left side. My physician then put me on gemfibrozil, two pills a day 30 minutes before eating. The gemfibrozil has lowered my bad cholesterol and triglycerides, and raised my good cholesterol -- with no ...

What a ‘doggy first-aid kit’ should contain

DEAR DIDI: My family and I would like to thank you again for stopping to help us when our dog, Daisy, was being attacked by a stray dog while we were out walking. Daisy's puncture wounds are healing well and we are convinced she would not have survived if you hadn't intervened. We were further impressed that you carry a "doggy first-aid kit" and we now want to have one in our family. Would you be willing to share what was in your kit? - Grateful Lathrop Family

Falsehoods and false alarms

Why does Donald Trump repeat talking points that he knows are untrue? During Tuesday night's debate, The Donald asserted that before 9/11, terrorists put their "friends, family, girlfriends" into planes, and "they were sent back - for the most part to Saudi Arabia. They knew what was going on. They went home, and they wanted to watch their boyfriends on television."

Surviving a terror attack

About 20 years ago, I was Christmas shopping at a local mall. I had my kids with me and just as we were getting out of our car we heard a loud commotion. We heard screams and gunshots as the doors burst open and people began running for their lives. I especially recall one young father running with his toddler in his arms. It seems that a couple criminals decided to try a smash and grab at the jewelry department of one of the anchor stores. I quickly got the kids in the car and got the heck out of ...

The Lake Chabot rant

In the age of the cellphone camera, interactions that are best forgotten instead escalate and become chew toys for the chattering class. When a video goes viral, the public's sense of proportion often goes AWOL.
