Elden "Red" Nutt was Vice Mayor of the Ripon City Council, in line to become Mayor. He passed away Friday morning. Nutt, who was a retired police chief, has served on the council since 2006, and was appointed mayor twice during that stint. Prior to that, he was on the Ripon Planning Commission for two years. Nutt was the only incumbent to be re-elected during the 2012 campaign. He worked on the Ripon police force from 1964 to 1990. A group of 70 Girl Scouts in the area will be at the American Legion Hall in Ripon on Saturday putting together blankets, stockings and other gift items to be given to all veterans at the Livermore Veterans Hospital for Christmas.
