Hail to the chiefs

The Ripon Chiefs were hard at work Friday afternoon in preparation for an Aug. 15 jamboree scrimmage in Winton. Head coach Rennie DePrue will lead his Chiefs into the first contest of the season Aug. 22 at Central Catholic. The Chiefs return home to Ripon High the following week for the home opener.

Eighty years ago, on July 27, 1929, the Tracy Tigers decisioned the Manteca Maulers at Tracy by the score of 3 to 2. The game was one of those stingy affairs, neither side getting a lot of chances to break any records. This was simply because of the adverse weather conditions and the work of the two pitchers.
