ACAMPO - The Manteca Area Soccer League under-10 girls all-stars completed their Bill Meyer Winter League season with an 11-0-3 record and the championship. The Sharks went 4-0 in the season-ending playoffs at Oak View School this past weekend.
On April 9 and 10, Manteca area youth softball players, as well as young women throughout the Central Valley, will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn the fundamentals of softball from some of the best players ever to play the game.
Forty years ago, on February 28, 1969, the East Union High basketball team upset their cross-town rivals at Manteca High 70-61. This was after 24 consecutive losses in EUHS's first two cage seasons. Manuel Luis and Dean Rich led the Lancers with 17 points apiece and Don White added 13 more to the winning total. Manteca High's Steve Beaver led all scorers with 22 points in a losing cause. Lindsay Munoz added 11 points for the Buffaloes.
TURLOCK – After losing the big-time production of Briana DeVries to graduation a year ago, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Ripon Christian girls basketball program heading into this season.
Ron Vander Molen has enjoyed watching his Ripon Christian Knights make great strides in the later stages of the season, but he's hoping their best basketball is still ahead of them as they lock up with No. 4 Victory Christian in Carmichael tonight for a second-round Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoff matchup.
