Awaiting jail term, arrested & released again

After being sentenced to 90 days in jail for auto burglaries, one 25-year-old Manteca man has been stopped twice by police while waiting to report for his county jail term. It is a commentary on today's judicial system in San Joaquin County allowing felons back on the street after their arrests.

A 5-inch-long pipe bomb located on a Yosemite Park picnic table Monday afternoon by a man and his grandson playing ball was destroyed by Manteca Police bomb squad members at about 6:30 p.m. two hours after it was found.

Man faces charges of altering pay check from his employer

A well-dressed motorist was stopped and arrested by police in the parking lot of a North Main Street drug store Wednesday morning after they learned he was in town. They searched him out on charges that included altering his pay checks from a Manteca business last October and a no bail warrant for a vandalism conviction.

Text message anonymous tips to Sheriff’s Office

FRENCH CAMP – The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office has set up a system to allow witnesses to text message them with anonymous tips. The tip is sent to a main server that is not associated with any law enforcement agency. The Internet-based systems route messages through a server that encrypts cell phone numbers before they get to law enforcement, making tips virtually impossible to track. With the server stripping the text of any identifying information before sending the tip to the Sheriff's Office for which it was intended.
