Maria Carmen Meno, fondly known to all as China, passed away due to natural causes on May 3, 2010 in Tracy, CA. She was 83. Born Maria Carmen Negrete on June 3, 1926 in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico, she has called Tracy her home for the past 62 years.
James Floyd Van Zant passed away on April 30, 2010 in Manteca, CA. He was born on January 30, 1939 in Padan, Oklahoma and lived in Manteca, CA for 35 years. He worked for Montgomery Wards department store and the Purex Corporation in Southern California. He served in the United States Air Force. James will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Carlos A. Martinez, 55, of Manteca, passed away on April 30, 2010 in Manteca. Carlos was born on November 4, 1954 in Progreso Morelos, Mexico, and was a resident of Manteca for the past seven years. He was an herb specialist and was a member of Iglesia Comunitaria Centra Vida. Carlos is survived by his companion, Cecilia Martinez; his children, Patricia Martinez and Carlos Alberto Martinez; his grandchildren, Litzy Consuelo Garcia, Luis Gael Garcia, and Patricia Yolotzyn Garcia; his brothers, Ipolinar Popoca and Antonio Estevan Reymundo Santiago Salgado; and his sisters Margarita Popoca and Elena Amada Reyna Isabel Laureles Zalgado.
Ruby M. Carson (Arnold), 90, died on Thursday, April 29, at her residence in Modesto. She was born on May 24, 1919 in Bartley, Nebraska, and lived in Modesto for four years. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Eugene N. Carson.
Robert Hunt was a long time farmer in the Manteca area and a former heavy equipment operator. He was a World War II Veteran, a graduate of the University of Davis with a degree in History and where he played football and was voted one of the two top Guards in the Far Western Conference. He was being recruited by the LA Rams, but an injury ended his football career. His nick name on the team was Tiny and at 6'2" he was the biggest guy on the team.

Ruth A. Thomson passed away on April 19, 2010 at Bethany Home in Ripon, California, at the age of 85. She was born on August 8, 1924 in Cleveland, Tennessee, to the late Harvey and Lillie Thompson. Ruth was preceded in death by her late husband of 46 years, Robert S. Thomson, and her daughter, the late Barbara Thomson Kelley.

Cynthia (Beattie) Garcia, 78-years-old and a native and resident of French Camp, CA., passed away peacefully on April 25, 2010. She was preceded in death by parents L. Cleveland and Alice Beattie, and her siblings "Junior" and Patricia "Pat" Beattie. She is survived by her only child, Kathleen "Kathy" Garcia from her prior marriage to Leo Garcia. Cynthia was a graduate of French Camp Elementary and Manteca High School. She owned and operated the family business "Beattie's Grocery" the majority of her life.
Wanda Wert was born to parents Ethel and William in Waterville, Washington. Wanda has always been a strong and independent person. During her early years she rode a horse five miles every day to grammar school. She was the youngest of seven, and she was the only girl. As anyone with older brothers knows, she was tormented relentlessly, but all in good fun. A favorite story involves her being tied to a wagon wheel and rolled down a hill.
