Hugh's mother cherished him. Hugh found the love of his life when he was 16 years old and was married to her in July 1954 in Sacramento, at age 19.

Stena Van Andel, 99, of Ripon died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Bethany Home. She was born to Klaas and Gertie Vander Meer on April 23, 1910 in Vona, Colorado. In 1930 she went to work in Denver, Colorado as a nanny for two little girls. She moved to California in 1930 where she met Mike Van Andel and was married on April 5, 1936. They lived in the Ripon area and farmed two different ranches for many years. There they raised three children. In 1979 they moved to Modesto and later returned to Ripon in 1996.

Nita Sheldon, age 80, of Manteca, CA passed away Friday, January 10, 2014, at her residence. She was born in James Town, North Dakota on December 13, 1933. Nita worked as a mail carrier at Sharps Army Depot for over 30 years. In her younger years she camped and fished often. Nita was an avid shopper and loved to dine out for breakfast or lunch. She loved her four dogs whole heartedly, and donated often to the SPCA and Humane Society.

She graduated from Palisade High School and entered nurses training at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, Colo. Following graduation she worked in the hospital in Imperial, Neb. He was a 1951 graduate of Manteca High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on March 25, 1952. George was actively involved in farming for 60 years.
