Reed Mantle Oborn, 65, passed away March 22, 2009 of natural causes at Doctors Hospital in Manteca. Reed was born Sept. 17, 1943 in Tooele, Utah, to Henry Melvin and Jennie Leone Mantle Oborn. He grew up in Tooele and graduated from Tooele High School, where he was very active in sports.

He was born on May 14, 1920 in Buhl, Idaho to Mr and Mrs. Glen and Alice Taylor Sr. He was a resident of Manteca for the past 13 years and previously of Contra Costa for 46 years. Glen was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hazel Taylor as well as his parents.
Evelyn Ann Louis, 88, passed away on March 25, 2009 in Sacramento. Born Evelyn Ann Lucas on September 21, 1921 in Knights Ferry, CA she was the last of thirteen children of an immigrant father, John A. Lucas, from the Azores Islands. Her mother, Mary Gloria King – Lucas, was native to California. She grew up in Escalon and the Manteca area where she met her husband of 59 years, Ernie Louis, who has preceded her in death. Tracy has been her home for many years before moving to Sacramento a year ago.

LaVerne Riegle, 82, went home to her Lord and Savior, on March 3, 2014, in Manteca, Calif. She was born June 14, 1931, in Lynn, Okla. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jerry. LaVerne leaves behind her children: Kay Miller (Ray); Terry Riegle; and Karen Ortiz (Donnie). She was blessed with five grandchildren: Kyle Miller; Kristopher Miller; Robbie Orlando; Ryann Christensen; Janna Miller; and twelve great-grandchildren. LaVerne also had many nieces and a nephew, whom she adored. In addition, LaVerne has one surviving sibling, Jerry Austin (Carole) of Los Banos, Calif.
David "Jimmy" Smith, age 72, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 5, in Stockton, CA. He was born on April 17, 1941, in Oakdale, CA to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David and Hazel Smith. He was the oldest of three children. Jimmy was self employed as a landscaper for 12 years. He was a member of both the Nazarene Church and Sequoia Heights Baptist Church of Manteca. We lost a good man. Gary Lee Jones lived his life with passion, full of love. He was a Deputy Sheriff, a Police Officer, a son, a brother, a father, a friend, and a husband. He is survived by his mother Anne; his brother Rick; his children Ryan (Susanna); Jennifer; Richard (RaeAnne); Anthony (Lisa); Michael; Lindsey; and Sam; his two grandchildren Dominic and Brendon; countless friends; including his ex-wife Marci (Shae); and his beloved wife Brenda. He is preceded in death by his father Haskel, and his sister Sandra.

Chester (Chet) Arthur Esenwein Jr. passed away early on Saturday from natural causes, after major surgery. He was 77 years old. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Oct. 8, 1936. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy where he earned his veteran status in the Vietnam War. He was well known as the best auto detailer in Manteca, owning his own detail business for many years.
