Richard "Rev" Brown, 72, pastor of First Assembly of God in Manteca for nearly three decades (the church is now called The Place of Refuge) at the North Main Street and Button Avenue locations, passed away at home in Manteca on Oct. 17, 2009 surrounded by family. A native of Chico, Calif., he was born on July 17, 1937.
Mrs. Clara B. Pacoma, 92, died Oct. 16, 2009 in Stockton. A native of the Philippines, Mrs. Pacoma lived in Stockton. She is survived by her children Mila Silveira (Joseph) of Vancouver, Canada; Manny Pacoma (Cecilia) of Fremont, Violet Albano (Cesar) of Lathrop, and Clarita Muench (Edgar) of Frankfurt, Germany; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
Daniel D. Freitas, 67, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Fresno. Dan was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in 2004 and fought cancer with everything he had. He surpassed all odds.

His early years were spent in Oregon, growing up in Clatskanie and Rainier. It was August 1964 when his parents decided to move to California. He has called Manteca home for over 45 years.
Stephen Joseph "Stevie" Richina, 57, of Sonora, died Sept. 29, 2009 at a Sonora hospital of throat cancer.
Jack Kenneth Wells, 76, a long time resident of Lathrop, entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009. He was born and raised in Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he attended Okmulgee High School.

Douglas J. Horton, 73, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2009. Doug retired from Manteca High School as a math teacher. He was born on June 14, 1936. He enjoyed playing bridge at Oak Park Senior Center. Doug loved being a dedicated teacher and also coaching athletics. He received a Certificate of Recognition The John R. Williams Award.
Thomas G. "Tom" Best, 64, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Modesto. He was born on October 26, 1944 in Oakland, CA, and was a resident of Manteca for 20 years.
Ruby A. Deaton, 90, entered into rest on October 18, 2009 at Doctor's Hospital of Manteca. She was born on September 6, 1919 in Ola, Arkansas to the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard & Faye Merritt. She was preceded in death by one grandson Jeff Deaton and her husband Boyd Deaton. Ruby was a resident of Lathrop for 33 years.
Beloved wife of Frank H. McKinnon (deceased), devoted mother of Sharon A. Phillips, cherished grandmother of Deborah Phillips, Bethany Zepeda, Jennifer Batchler, Megan Hackney, John Phillips, Matt Phillips and Kimberly Orlando. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was the treasured cousin of Sandra Boietenbacker, Linda Hoff and their families.
John Wayne Cotrell was born on Aug. 18, 1931 to Thurman and Verna Cotrell in Stockton, CA. He passed away peacefully at his home Oct. 14 at the age of 78.
John Crothers was born November 26, 1932 in Hayle, England. He passed away at his home in Manteca on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. John was the youngest of nine children born to Thomas John Stanley Crothers and Margaret Ann (Richards) Crothers.
Joan Mistlin, 92, of Ripon, CA passed away peacefully on May 31, 2014, in the loving care of Bethany Home, surrounded by most of her family. She was born on December 13, 1921 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Wilma and Herbert Hildebrandt. She grew up in Normal, Illinois. During the war she worked on the Manhattan Project and then joined the U.S. Marines, serving as an aviation mechanic from 1943 to 1945.
Betti Fitzwater, 60, entered into rest May 29, 2014 Modesto, California. She was born the oldest of 18 children on April 14, 1954 in Arizona.
