Before Iyana Hughes' heroic base hit lifted Sierra High's softball team to win a 2-1 Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV playoff game against Central Catholic, it took a heroic effort from four Manteca Unified groundskeepers to get the school's varsity field in playing shape Wednesday.

Simpson lands Goulart on softball scholarship

In her four years of athletics at East Union High, senior Jillian Goulart had little difficulty shinning on a softball field or on a golf course. Now the graduating Lancer will narrow her responsibilities to just one sport, as she signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Simpson University Red Hawks in Redding.

MODESTO – When Jerrica Hauck quietly slipped onto the scene a year ago in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Track and Field Trials at Modesto Junior College she won the meet with a personal best 10-foot vault. This year Hauck was on her own personal stage, leading the crowd like at a concert and winning the meet – with another personal record.
