1970: Buff cagers snap 3 year Oakdale losing streak

Seventy years ago, on February 27, 1940, Manteca High School's Buffalo cagers won their first game of an elimination series for the championship of Central California on the local hardwoods when they handed Coach Sig Lien's Tracy High Bulldogs a 32-24 lacing. Sharp-shooting "Frenchy" Guisto, although having an off-night, snagged high scoring honors with 13 points. George Dadasovich, starting slowly in the first half, came through nicely in the clutch and scored 10.

2000: Sierra edges Marysville in section playoffs

10 years ago, on February 25, 2000, local high school soccer squads placed 15 players on the all-Valley Oak League team. Seniors Meghan DeiRossi of Manteca High and Sierra High's Darci Cullers were named the VOL's Most Valuable Players. It was the second straight year Cullers was bestowed the honor. Sierra High won its fifth straight championship. Overall, the Lady Timberwolves landed seven players on the first team, including Cullers, Lisa Esteves, Jackie Wax, Ana Almeida, Marisa Mercado, Ginny Teunissen and Cherie Early. 2000: Sierra boys basketball overcomes 18-point deficit

Twenty years ago on February 14, 1990, the Manteca High Lady Buffs rolled to an easy 49-33 win over host Ceres High Tuesday night behind the 23-point effort of Cateena Gleaves. She finished with 11 of 12 shots from the free throw line. Maci Buck added 10 points to the winning total.
