1950: Buffaloes win first hoop title in 14 years

Thirty years ago, on March 5, 1980, Manteca High's senior front line partners Fred Nelson and Mitch Crawford, along with East Union High jumping-jack Kelly Stewart, topped the list of selections to the annual all-Valley Oak League basketball team, which was chosen Tuesday night by the league's coaches in Modesto. Nelson, the 6-1 forward, carted off MVP honors after leading the VOL in scoring with an 18.5 average in 10 games. Crawford, a 6-5 center, made all-league for the second year in a row. 1970: Buff cagers snap 3 year Oakdale losing streak

Seventy years ago, on February 27, 1940, Manteca High School's Buffalo cagers won their first game of an elimination series for the championship of Central California on the local hardwoods when they handed Coach Sig Lien's Tracy High Bulldogs a 32-24 lacing. Sharp-shooting "Frenchy" Guisto, although having an off-night, snagged high scoring honors with 13 points. George Dadasovich, starting slowly in the first half, came through nicely in the clutch and scored 10.
