1979: McCreath earns Buff football MVP honor

Thirty years ago, on December 27, 1979, junior forward Kelly Stewart buried a short jumper with just :03 left to power East Union High's basketball team to a dramatic 46-45 upset victory over previously unbeaten Turlock High in an opening round contest in the 10th annual Oakdale Rotary Holiday Classic at Oakdale High. Stewart led Coach Bill Stricker's EU five with 14 points, while Keith Windham added 13 more. It was Turlock's first loss in 10 outings.

1929: Lions host champion Manteca High gridders

Eighty years ago, on December 12, 1929, the Lions Club had the pleasure of entertaining as guests at their weekly luncheon meeting at Hotel Manteca the members of the Manteca High football squad, which recently won the Central California High School Athletic League Class B championship by defeating the Elk Grove High team. Coaches Cleetis Brown and Joe Santos, to whom much of the success of the team is due, were also guests. Maurice Tracie, vice-principal of the high school, was also a guest. 1979: Pinto earns 3rd section gymnastics trip

On December 7, 1929, at Elk Grove High School, Manteca High downed the Elk Grove football team in a crushing defeat of 33-0. This gives the Buffaloes first place in class "B" football in Central California. The Elk Grove boys were a fast and tricky team but they could not stand up to the heavy pounding of the Buffalo line. This is the first time in the history of Manteca Union High School that the Buffaloes have won the championship of Central California.
