Seventy years ago, on March 28, 1940, in a wild and wooly game that saw both nines score at will, the Manteca High hickory stickers finally came through with a close 12-11 win over their rivals from Tracy High. The lead changed hands several times at the outset of the game and both pitchers were hit unmercifully. "Frenchy" Guisto poked out a pair of four-ply swats besides gathering a triple and two singles for a perfect day at the plate. It was the only sporting event that came to a head over the past week.
