Guibor shatters old lap record at New 99

The huge crowd, estimated at 3700, that jammed into the bleachers last Saturday night at Stockton 99 Speedway was treated to some truly "old school" style racing when Modesto's Harry Belletto and Tracy's David Philpott lined up at the front of the 25-car field for Round 1 of the Tri Holiday Classic, presented by California Welding Supply, 150-lap Western Late Model feature.

Devencenzi rakes as Delta comes up short of state title

­FRESNO - Former Weston Ranch star Vinnie Devencenzi went 6 for 10 with three RBIs over the weekend in helping lead Delta College to a California Community College State Championship game appearance at Fresno City College, where the Mustangs fell to eventual champ Orange Coast College of Costa Mesa, 10-7.

Gomes off to strong start in Western Late Models rookie season

After dominating the WSRA Baby Grand division during the past couple of seasons, a series designed for young racers to hone their driving skills in 2/3 scale replica stock cars, Manteca's Jacob Gomes made the move straight to the Western Late Models upon reaching the minimum age of 16 this season. Racing full time at Madera Speedway, Gomes has picked up a couple of podium finishes and sits second in the season point standings behind Modesto's Kyle Gottula.

TURLOCK - The season came to an end Monday for the Spreckels Park Major All-Stars, as the bats came alive and stayed alive for Hoover Tyler of Stockton. Hoover Tyler prevailed 13-3 in the consolation semifinal of the Section 6 Major All-Star Tournament held at Soderquist Park and hosted by Turlock National Little League.
