Editor, Manteca Bulletin, The following comments are in response to the editor notations at the end of my comments published on Monday, July 6. Apparently, I misread and misunderstood the article and the establishment of landscape maintenance districts in Manteca. And, perhaps the word "defunct" was too pointed, maybe I should have framed my comments to reflect the purpose of landscape maintenance districts (LMD) and the loss of jobs. Perhaps the clue I missed was ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, It is time to make perfectly clear that today's political stage is not between the Democratic party and the Republican party. When in reality it is between the liberals, who support big government (ala California), and conservatives who believe smaller government is the answer and that the Republican party has drifted too far to the left so there is a concerted effort to bring the GOP back to the conservative agenda that ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, Manteca City Council members Steve DeBrum, Vince Hernandez and Debby Moorhead have my congratulations and thanks for stopping two projects likely to experience large and increasing maintenance costs while revenues are flat at best, or most likely, declining. Thank you for considering the city as a whole as the most important consideration. Your action is truly pre-emergent treatment to slow rapid cost growth. The Bulletin's recently published $62 million park wants listing ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, Regarding your story about placebo police cars in Manteca: I remember reading that this was tried in New York years ago. The program was abandoned when they found that the unattended police cars often ended up vandalized and on blocks with the wheels stolen. Manteca is not New York, but I hope they considered this possibility. Dave Ventura Manteca July 7, 2009
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, If ever there were any question as to the character of Sara Palin, there certainly shouldn't be any now. As we all know by now, Sara Palin announced her plans to, well, have no plans at all. Her, what can only be described as an inscrutable resignation speech, clarified nothing, and then expounded on more nothing. Her reasons for quitting turned out to be a game of 52-pickup, tossing up the cards ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, Manteca Councilman Vince Hernandez, who failed to show up last July for the block party held on Cowell Street in his "old neighborhood" on July 4th, concerning the gang issue, suddenly shows up this year on July 4th, 2009. This time there was no gang problem. This time councilman Hernandez appears out of nowhere showing up just as most people had already left, chit-chatting, with a few people to make it look ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, On June 19, HOPE Ministries held our annual "Kids in a Box" event on the grounds of Raymus House. A number of kids participated and had a great time spending the night in their shelters made of cardboard. With their pledges, we raised over $3,000 to help operate Raymus House and HOPE Family Shelter, our two shelters for homeless families. Kids in a Box is not only a fundraiser, it is also ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, What is all the commotion about landscape maintenance districts going defunct in Manteca? That was a certainty when the new residents of a subdivision had an opportunity to vote on the district's continued existence. When the Council approved the districts several years ago, the only votes represented were that of the developer/land owner. Did the Council really think that the districts were going to take care of themselves after the new residents ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, The following was seen on a T-shirt in Manteca today (July 4): "If you can't stand behind our troops then stand in front of them, please." On the birthday of our nation we too often reflect on fireworks, parades, picnics and a day off from work. What needs to be remembered is the cost for our freedom and the responsibility it puts on each of us who enjoy that freedom. We have ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, I just wanted to say "thank you" to all of the people that helped me when I was in a car accident on Thursday, June 25, at about 4 p.m. on Moffat Boulevard. The "Verizon Man" that went in pursuit to track down the hit and run drunken driver, the "NuShake Man" that put out cones and helped direct traffic, and Officer Blackburn who took down all of the information and anyone ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, 'Thank you', to the following who graciously gave their time and talent to provide a fantastic experience of hands-on arts & crafts, games, entertainment and more to our community's children and families for Children's Art in the Park 2009 on Saturday, June 20th at Manteca Library Park: Manteca DeMolay for their flag presentation and tribute to the flag, the national anthem sung by Miss Amanda Rosas, Manteca Youth Focus, Artist; Tom Olson, ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, In response to recent letters to the editor: Everyone will suffer more due to state and district budget cuts. However, I do not know one teacher, especially in the Manteca Unified School District, who will let that be an excuse for students not succeeding. As we have always done, we will continue to use (even more) money out of our own pockets to purchase supplies needed to help our students succeed, to ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, I would like to thank all my family and friends. Also the Ellis family and friends for all of the help and support. All the flowers, cards and love given over the past week. I would like to ask that everyone forget the day of the accident... it's too hard to keep reliving. Just try to remember the good times you spent with Cortney. We all love her and will miss her ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, How can the Bulletin sit back and let the idiots who run Manteca have a Fourth of July (Independence Day) celebration on the third of July? In my eyes that degrades and disrespects the whole meaning of why we celebrate. If they want to have a party on the third, that's OK, but don't call it an Independence Day celebration because IT IS NOT! What a bunch of idiots in city hall ...
Editor, Manteca Bulletin, I read your paper about the Manteca Unified School District laying off teachers. It appears that the teachers are to blame for all our problems. Teachers are the backbone of our nation and are responsible for our future. All it takes to have a school teachers and children. It helps to have a meeting place. The school district does not need a castle for the executives, councilors and other non-teachers. Get rid ...
Editor's note: The tip a cop event is done inside a restaurant and involves tips for off-duty officers that wait on customers. Under city rules, it is illegal in Manteca for firefighters - or anyone - to solicit for even non-profit causes at intersections controlled by traffic signals.
