TEACHER PAYROLL

In the past, I received $200 for classroom supplies. Not a month, not a semester but for the YEAR. I will receive $25 for the year. And, you might not realize this, but in the past, the school board gave the superintendent a $300 supply allowance. Not per year, per MONTH. To his credit, Superintendent Jason Messer turned this perk down. That's not the point. Do you see how this example further illustrates my point of fiscal mismanagement and anti-children policy at the district level?

Uncle Sam is an enabler of the worst kind

Uncle Sam is turning into the relative who undermines good parenting by lavishing kids with expensive gifts, giving them candy before dinner and letting them stay up until all hours of the night and ignore basic disciplines like doing you homework and chores.

Manteca Unified needs to fine tune its busing decision

The decision to cut home-to-school busing inside a 1.25-mile radius for elementary students and a 2.5-mile radius for high school students around Manteca Unified campuses was clear in terms of who gets a ride and who doesn't.

Time to stand up for schools

It's time to stand up and be counted. It's time to stand up for our schools. It's time to stand up for our children. Forty-two kids in first grade at Great Valley. Seventy kids in PE at Lathrop High. High school kids sitting on the classroom floor because there are no seats available. Class schedules for high school kids being rearranged so they can be put into classes that they do not want just for the SOLE purpose of putting them somewhere. Don't believe it? Ask the high school kids! Manteca Unified class sizes maxed out ...

Have we forgotten Sept. 11, 2001?

Al Qaeda declared war against America in 1998 and these terrorists are still at war against America. Sadly, the Obama administration has directed the removal of any use of the term "War of Terror". Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano also avoids any mention of "terrorism" and "vulnerability" in any discussion. A terrorist act will now be called a "man-made disaster" and the "Global War on Terror" will now be called an "Oversees Contingency Operation" by the Obama administration.

Keeping life lines clear

On the southwest corner of our property, just inside the tan brick wall that separates our office from the mad rush of downtown Stockton activity, stands a still tall sentinel of a tree. With broad leaves expanding wide, it shields us from harsh afternoon sunlight and the endless drone of cross-town traffic.

PG&E? Lie? Now that’s a real shocker

uPG&E did not pay any taxes between 2008 and 2010 despite scoring $4.1 billion in profits. During that same time they received $1 billion in tax rebates. It was all thanks to a $79 million lobbying effort of politicians by the firm that last summer spent $10 million on a "we lost our way" advertising campaign to improve their public image.
