Milo Candini struck out 22 men and walked four in the nine-inning game, while pitching a three-hitter. Wallace Fagundes led the Buffalo hitting with two for three. Candini knocked a three-base hit, which was the best of the game.

It was the second straight year that Gonzales, an all-league player last year, led off the Los Banos game with a home run. Thirty years ago, on March 16, 1986, Manteca High, with Kelly Swift scoring the deciding run in the sixth inning, brought home a 3-2 victory over Ceres High at Northgate Park. She came home on a bases-loaded single by sophomore Brandi Rose. Another sophomore, Kim Sloan, was the hitting star for the Lady Buffs with a perfect four-for-four at the plate. She was also the winning pitcher, setting down 12 of the last 14 batters to face her.
Forty years ago, on March 12, 1976, Doug Swift, a 1975 graduate of East Union High, is off to a flying start on the San Joaquin Delta College baseball team. Swift, one of the finest all-around athletes produced on the Union Road campus, has earned a first-base starting spot on the Mustang team, coached by Dan Flores. Going into yesterday's game with Los Medanos, the Mantecan was batting .380.
Forty years ago, on March 1, 1976, the ending of the season couldn't have been happier for the East Union High girls' basketball team as they handed Manteca High a stunning 38-31 upset loss at Dalben Center. Donna Conley and Marilyn Clarkson combined for 36 rebounds to lead EU in the upset victory. Clarkson, who had 20 rebounds, scored 11 points, while her teammate was high scorer for the game with 17 points. Leading Manteca High were Karen Steves with 13 points and Collette Collins with 10.

Fifty years ago, on January 8, 1966, Manteca High continued its winning ways by downing a scrappy Oakdale High quintet 73-66. Oakdale led the Buffaloes by 14-13 at the first quarter, but trailed from that point on. The Buffs were never able to put the game away, though. Once again, Coach Joe Handy's Buffs had four scorers in double figures. Jim Anderson, Mel Montanio and John Tubbs all had 16 points. Close behind was Vance Munoz with 15 points.
