Forty years ago, on October 4, 1973, revenge is getting sweeter every week for East Union High's Lancers. For the third time in three weeks, EU has defeated a football team that beat them last year. This week's victim was the defending Valley Oak League champion St. Mary's High. With 16 seconds remaining in the game, halfback Carl Esquivel took a pitchout and roared around right end to score and give the Lancers a 28-25 victory over the visiting Rams in one of the most thrilling finishes ever witnessed at Guss Schmiedt Field. Forty years ago, on September 5, 1973, with their season-opener at Galt High just 10 days away, optimism pervades East Union High's football coaching staff. 1913: Lagorio fans 13, pitches two-hitter for Manteca victory

100 years ago, on August 8, 1913, Manteca still keeps in the limelight as an aggressive ball team and the long string of victories remains unbroken, causing the old leaguers to rub their eyes and take notice of the stellar brand of goods being dished out. Last Sunday, they handed the goose egg to the Sperry Flour aggregation of Stockton in a game that was full of ginger from start to finish. Lagorio was a puzzle to the visitors, retiring 13 batters and allowing but two hits, while the White Sox obtained six hits and lost nine via the strikeout ...

Haggerty won both hurdle events (16.0) and (21.9) and the high jump (5-7), while Peters nabbed both the sprints (:10.0 and :23.4) and ...
