LATHROP – While neighboring cities such as Stockton and Manteca will close their offices during the entire weeks of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, Lathrop City Hall will remain open except on the holiday itself and Friday.
That will be the case on Thanksgiving when City Hall will be closed both Thursday and Friday. However, for Christmas and New Year’s, city offices will remain open until noon on Thursday and closed all day on Friday.
City Hall is already closed on Fridays in connection with the furlough program that was started in August as part of the continuing efforts to whittle down the fiscal year 2009-10 deficit of about $3+ million. The city still needs to find ways to cut about $1 million to balance the current fiscal year’s budget. In addition to closing city offices on Fridays including Police Services, 15 positions were eliminated and 10 percent employee pay cuts across the board were instituted. All that financial belt tightening still left about $1 million that needed to be cut from the budget.
The exceptions to the above closures are emergency police and fire department calls (9-1-1) as well as emergency service calls for water, sewer, and other emergencies. These services will be available according to schedules already in place for after-office hours, weekends and holidays.
